This past Tuesday March 8th was International Women’s Day. Throughout history, women have been able to overcome many barriers imposed by society and unwrap in any given task…and that forward-thinking mindset is evident today, in the many innovative leaders that are within our communities.
Powerful Latinas celebrities gathered together to once again remark women’s accomplishments on National Women’s day and encourage and motivate other women.
Eva Longoria decided to celebrate this special day with a special person, her mother. Longoria uploaded a video to admire and honor her mother. In the 9-second video where her mother appears, Longoria described her mother as a strong and amazing woman.
La Diva Del Bronx, single mother of twins; Max and Emme, Jennifer Lopez is another Latina woman who joined to celebrate and empower the ladies on Women’s Day. Lopez who was announced as the Global Advocate for Girls and Women by United Nations Foundation, celebrated the day by spreading the word of global gender inequality that still exist.
Jenny from the block who struggled as a woman but never gave up, encourages others to join and end the great disparity between women and men. She said, “I ask you to stand up for all girls and women this International Women’s Day. By 2030, we can make gender equality a reality.”
With her Dominican and Puerto Rican roots, Hollywood actress, director, and mother of twin boys: Cy Aridio and Bowie Ezio, Zoe Saldaña also joined to celebrate International Women’s Day. On her Facebook, she posted a photo of three generations of women in her family, her sisters, mother and grandmother. She quotes, “Here’s to strong women, may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them”.
Sofia Vergara decided to celebrate the day by pointing out an article that describes the impact the non-profit organization, Give to Colombia is making. This organization works with the Colombian community and simultaneously helping one another to empower women; overcome stereotypes and help women achieve their dreams.
