If you haven’t heard the Harlem Shake, or had to sit through your cousins home-made rendition of it, well, congratulations, you are a select few.
Brooklyn producer Just Blaze (also know to his abuela as, Harry Baauer Rodrigues) sampled work by off-the-map-for-a-minute Reggaeton star, Hector el Father, now a preacher known by his birth name, Hector Delgado. The song also samples music from the song “Miller Time” released by rap group, Plastic Little.
The legal follow-through comes after Delgado claimed he didn’t want to pursue any financial compensation. When speaking to Telemundo he said, “I realize that this is a platform that God is giving me for people to know that the man who stands before you now, who once was known as Hector el Father, is Hector Delgado, and that five years ago I left it all behind her Jesus”.
I’m guessing Jesus must have called Delgado and told him to get his money. Now he, and Jayson Musson from Plastic Little’s are looking to receive compensation from Mad Decent Records, the label Harlem Shake was released under.
