Well, it seems like Ariana Grande’s doughnut licking incident is truly one last problem she has to worry about amongst her fans.
During the most American of weekends—4th of July weekend, Grande was caught on surveillance camera in Wolfee Donuts located in Lake Elsinore, California licking several donuts on display and angrily uttering “I hate America,” after a worker placed more donuts on display. Acts that are considered quite unusual—according to a selective few—for the little singing diva.
Since the incident became public and went viral, Grande has somewhat given an apology citing that the licking of donuts and her anti-America/American statement was “I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country…What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context,” and that as a health advocate obesity in children within this country is far too high so she was saving them…the last part is partially paraphrased.
Seeing that her original apology was getting her nowhere, the former Nickelodeon star gave a second apology via video and admitted in her that she “just wanted to make a video to apologize again for the whole doughnut fiasco and craziness because I feel like the apology I posted, I was…I like kind of missed my opportunity to actually sincerely apologize and express how I was feeling because I was too busy preaching about my issues with the food industry, which is, like, not, I feel like, relative.
“I was so disgusted with myself. I, like, shoved my face in a pillow and wanted to disappear. But instead of that I’m gonna come forward and own up to what I did and take responsibility and say I’m sorry because I reacted in a way that I feel like wasn’t necessary, to say the least, but also just wasn’t me at all.”
While some have condemned Grande and her apology, others have either forgiven or accepted it. Especially her fans who have taken the incident and turned it into what mostly everyone is doing today and turned it into a hashtag.
Taking to their Instagrams or Twitter, Grande’s fans are posting photos of themselves licking donuts emojis with the added hashtag: #LickDonutsWithAri.
The singer has yet to respond to the newest trend, but despite stating herself she is disgusted by her own antics it is kind of interesting to note how her fans are trying to just make light of it.
As repercussion to licking the doughnuts, Grande isn’t facing any criminal charges. According to the sheriff’s department in Lake Elsinore, the doughnut shop’s owners declined to press charges against the star and the incident was only document to aid the Department of Environmental Health.
While legally she wasn’t charged, Grande may have been ousted from the MLB All-Star Game concert in-which she was scheduled to perform but was replaced by Demi Lovato. Despite the doughnut fiasco, being removed from the concert was allegedly Grande’s own doing for oral surgery. Allegedly.
So what have we learned from this doughnut incident? If you’re famous and do something disgusting and unpatriotic that would get others into far more trouble…you’ll get a funny hashtag for it.
