President of Alvareztax Inc. Rafael Alvarez held a press conference
yesterday, August 4th, to inform the media of the court order he obtained
against the Dominican Parade and its President, Nelson Peña. The court order
that was obtained was for violation of contract. Another lawsuit was filed
in Manhattan’s Supreme Court against the Dominican Parade and President
Nelson Peña for failing to pay more than $75,000 in loans and services
provided to the parade. Alvarez invited New York press into his offices in
the company of his two lawyers to explain the scam he is dealing with.
He said that Nelson Peña’s alleged scam was widely harming businessmen and
because of their patriotism to the event, they stay silent about this issue
when it should not be that way. Alvarez also said that in 2007 he was
invited to be the Grand Marshall of the Dominican Parade and he had to pay
$15,000 for several tables at the gala dinner. Then Alvarez had to pay a
significant amount of money to the restaurant because neither Peña nor the
parade had money. Alvarez appealed to one of his credit cards and was not
reimbursed for the money incurred.
It is unfortunate that someone in charge of a major parade in New York that
receive millions upon millions of media impressions form TV, radio, print
and online every year has a history of inadequate behavior, as our search on
Mr. Pena has shown. However this is not and should not be interpreted by
others as the equation of a whole community.
community! And the community always has the last word, the community always
wins, but its people need to come together as a community and act as a
community!
Update:For the first time as we now it,
the annual welcoming reception that the Mayor host at Gracie Mansion, will be
after the parade, not prior to it, as they always do. This is a sigh that even the
mayor’s office is beginning to distance themselves from Mr. Pena
