Dominican York Proyecto GRAFICA, a printmaking collective of artists of Dominican descent who live and work in the United States, announces that its new group show “Here and There,” will be on exhibition at Barnard College in The Diana Center Gallery, 3009 Broadway at 117th Street in Manhattan. The prints provide rare and critical insight into the Dominican experience in New York and around the world.
The opening reception on March 22 starts with an artist panel at 6:00 p.m. in the Event Oval, LL.1 of The Diana Center, followed by a reception at 8:00 p.m. in the Gallery, fourth floor of The Diana Center. The exhibit will be on view from March 22 through April 3, 2012. Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday from 12noon to 4:00p.m. and Thursdays from 12noon to 9:00 p.m.

Two renowned scholars have provided curatorial essays for the exhibit: Paula Gómez Jorge, curator, art critic, and art historian from the Dominican Republic and Maja Horn, assistant professor of Spanish and Latin American Cultures at Barnard.

Founded in 2010 in New York City, Dominican York Proyecto GRAFICA is a printmaking collective of artists of Dominican descent living and working in the United States. DYPG’s mission is to advance the state of contemporary Dominican American graphic arts through a rich and varied collaboration– creating prints using a variety of techniques from the traditional to the latest and most innovative–and to broaden the public’s knowledge of modern Dominican culture through exhibitions, lectures, and workshops.
