his evening, international superstar and seven-time Grammy Award winner, Gloria Estefan, was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame by award-winning actor and musician Andy Garcia. This year’s opening night at the Bowl broke ticket sales records, resulting in raising more than $1.2 million. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the LA Philharmonic and its music education programs, which reach more than 120,000 children, teachers and adults every year.
The star-studded event featured Dame Helen Mirren, as host, as well as Harry Connick Jr., who was also inducted into the Bowl’s Hall of Fame by Hillary Swank. Estefan dazzled the audience with aset of her greatest hits, including “Conga,” “Mi Tierra,” “Get On Your Feet” and “Reach” accompanied by her own Miami Sound Machine and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. As a special surprise for the audience, Andy Garcia joined the band to play percussion. In addition, Estefan and Connick gave an inspirational duet performance of the classic “Come Rain or Come Shine.” The audience was also treated to an exclusive sneak preview of Cirque du Soleil’s first resident production in Los Angeles, IRIS, A Journey through the World of Cinema.
