Stefani Vara is in New York City shooting her video for the remix of her single “Mentira.” She has come full circle from a young empowered woman from a small town called Baytown, Texas. This third generation Mexican-American Latina knew she wanted to be a musician and nothing growing up said she couldn’t. Her mother set an example and pretty much ingrained in Stefani that whatever you envision is there to be had. “My mother has always been proactive,” Stefani explained. “My mom always pushed us to keep it moving.”
Vara did just that. She participated in gymnastics from the age of seven where she competed nationally. A life that included gymnastics, schoolwork, her sister’s ballet, and the family restaurant. Stefani went to college and earned a degree. She had visions of tackling New York. Resources were limited but she soon organized herself into a brand before it became the norm. “I came with a 1,000 dollars, no furniture, no job, or what my path would be,” Stefani recalled. “But I made a demo, found some contacts on craigslist, ready to make this happen.” She secured a deal. Dream realized. But realizing that to truly be represented accurately, you have to control the creative aspect. She was also resilient enough to see it through.
New York left an impression on a mind that was always in a creative state. “I love the energy and for an entrepreneur and a creative person, you need that energy,” Stefani explained. A big believer in destiny, she went home with the idea of a reality cooking show “Comida Caliente” with her siblings and charismatic mom, which was launched last year. The webseries was a natural, harkening back to the days working in the family restaurant. She recognized her mother was a natural. “She’s a character,” Vara smiles at the thought.
Never limiting herself she continued to create and out of the food experience, she thought of a return to the music and “Mentira” was born. The remix was produced by French producer, PM, which brings a club friendly support to Stefani’s sultry voice with a message. A complete 360 from the original version which centered around a fast paced tempo pop cumbia hybrid which has garnered interest. The song caught the attention of countries as far as Turkey where it landed in their top five. “I dont stress about the music and since then things have progressed,” she adds.
An inspiration and excellent role model, Stefani showed that cultivating the mind helps in business as she has secured a lot of the opportunities in fields beyond music, like fashion and cooking, and even a motivational book as she applies everything into a viable asset to take what she envisions to a realistic reality. With a return to New York to work on several projects with a new albumin the works , Stefani Vara has learned to ride the waves and results be damned. “Its a whole another journey that will take me to another destination.”
