He succeeded Susan Knudsen, who had served as mayor since 2016 and endured an acrimonious election cycle to win a new council term in May.
Knudsen nominated Hache for the mayor’s post, and he was approved unanimously by his council colleagues on Sunday.
“As an immigrant youth who moved to Ridgewood over 30 years ago, I never imagined I would be up there today or that I would have been elected into office two years ago,” Hache said. “But for all the negative things you hear about the U.S., I continue to believe in the U.S. more than any other place. As they say, ‘only in America.’ And I truly believe that.”
Hache immigrated to the United States at age 10 from the Dominican Republic.
