Richard Bastar Jr., known as B. A-STAR is coming from two generations of musicians in his family. Francisco “Kako” Bastar, grandfather whom recorded and performed with Latin music greatest artist like; Cortijo, Tito Puente among others and Richard Bastar SR, who’s currently a member of the world’s greatest salsa group El Gran combo de Puerto Rico, were the ones that inspired him to purse the art.
While growing up his number one passion was baseball. He dreamed of one day making it to the big leagues but caught himself in a crossroads when his older and younger brother proposed to assemble a musical group to continue the Bastar legacy. Since he was composing music since the age of 10, he jumped on the chance to do something that he and his brothers shared a love for.
In 2004, they formed the group “Tercera Generation” aka “3G” which name comes from the fact that they are the third generation of Bastar in the music industry. The group had an urban sound with influence of reggaeton and mambo de calle. B. A-Star was lead vocalist and wrote majority of the songs in the group. In 2007 the group released their first album titled “Los que la montan donde sea” which moved several thousand units and had the group touring up and down the east coast opening up for established Latin acts like; Arcangel, Tony Dize, Grupo 24 Horas, Marcy Place just to name a few. Without a doubt B. A-Star presence was felt on the stage, insuring that the fans and crowd got what they payed for, a phenomenal performance.
In late 2010 B. A-Star decided to work on a solo project to showcase his versatility. His first single “GO DJ’ was released May 2011 and is available on itunes. Since then he has released 25 music singles, that you can find on his website (www.bastarmusic.com). He has also filmed 13 music videos that are available on you tube.
