Its fitting that in a state known for its Marshlands, that a UFC Middleweight monster from Brazil, should be known by the moniker of a creature that inhabits such environs. Ronaldo Souza, is the #1 ranked Middleweight in the UFC, and he is ready to snap his powerful arms in a rematch with Chris Camozzi, who he conquered many moons ago tomorrow night in New Jersey at the Prudential Center for UFC on FOX: Machida vs Rockhold.
Known as “The Alligator” for his submission prowess through the art of jiu-jitsu, which he is a five time World Champion, Ronaldo was to be pitted against Cuban Yoel Romero, but now, after two cancellations, has to reverse fields and prepare for something different.
“I was supposed to fight a short wrestling guy.”
Souza exclaimed,
“Now, I’m fighting a tall wrestling guy.”
Ronaldo, at 35, is not moved by Camozzi comment’s that he is a much improved fighter. He has a serene as well as matter of fact view concerning the status of his position.
“I believe he improved his game but so have I.”
Souza responded,
“I got to go there and have a great fight and things will fall into place.”
Souza, (21-3-1 with 15 submission victories) has come a long way from the sands of Cariacica and the football nets he guarded jealously. He has already held his own with the likes of Couture and Da Silva, and has been middleweight champion of the Strikeforce promotion. He has tasted success and wants it all. He feels that one leads to the other and are unified in the end.
“First you have to do the work, the championship and the way.”
Souza recalls,
“I want to do both. In the end, the way is I want to be champion.”
Ronaldo Souza is nothing if not sure of his abilities. Yet he does respect Camozzi, though he was victorious previously. He is not selling anyone short but has a vision of how this Saturday’s fight at the Prudential Center will go.
“I believe the fight will end before the end of the third round.”
Souza predicted,
“My goal is to fight three but anthing can happen. But at the end of the fight I am going to win.”
