Zoe Saldana is stepping down from acting to co-produce the mystery thriller Hell Or High Water with her sister, Cisley Saldana. The siblings will be working with Jane Startz Productions and Aida Bernal’s Spellbound Entertainment to bring the novel to life.
Written by Joy Castro, the novel follows the story of a young reporter, Nola Cespedes, who becomes fixated on the search for a missing tourist in New Orleans while working on a big scoop for her newspaper. The mystery thriller was released on July 17 by Thomas Dunne Books. It was received with high regard, called one of the best books of 2012 by The Kirkus Review.
Saldana has her work cut out for her this spring. In addition to producing the upcoming project, she will also attend premieres for her latest movie, Star Trek Into Darkness. The film, directed by J.J. Abrams, will be out in theaters on May 17, 2013. The actress will also be working on upcoming film Blood Ties, directed by Guillaume Canet, along with actor Clive Owen.
The star won’t be stepping into the role of producer without aid. Sister Cisley Saldana has produced two films: Kaylien, a short film, and Kiss of Chaos. She also directs the TV series The Ropes.
Plans for the upcoming project are still underway. The production teams are currently discussing whether the novel will be debuted as a feature or a TV series. Regardless, it is sure to be a hit.
