Apparently when you’re cheated on you can win a possible large sum. Well, that’s not entirely true but for a man in Los Angeles it is absolutely true. Alberto Gutierrez is half-a-million dollars richer today after being awarded the large sum from a California jury after hearing Gutierrez’s case against his wife’s alleged lover.
In a lawsuit against a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Detective Philip Solano, Gutierrez claims that Detective Solano began an affair with his wife during their bitter custody battle. In the lawsuit, Gutierrez claims that Solano investigated him and covered up evidence that implicated his wife in the legal matter during the custody battle.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Gutierrez not only sued Detective Solano but another officer who violated his civil rights when taking him into custody twice for allegedly violating a restraining order. The charges against Gutierrez were later dropped.
During the trial, Gutierrez’s attorney proved the affair between his estranged wife and the Detective by showing Facebook exchanges between the two even after they denied their relationship was romantic. One of the exchanges read in the court reads, “How are you precious? I miss you a lot.”
While Detective Solano and Gutierrez’s wife have denied having a relationship between them and Gutierrez’s claims are unfounded, the Sheriff’s department said its Internal Affairs Department is investigating the claims made by Gutierrez against Detective Solano and the unnamed officer. Meanwhile the county, which will most likely be paying Gutierrez, said it would appeal the decision made my jurors in the trail.
Until a decision is made, Gutierrez can bask in the more than $450,000 award he may have coming his way for being a victim of the love game.
