It appears that another Anthony will be gracing the small screen. Following in his wife’s footsteps, the Grammy Award Winning Latin superstar Marc Anthony will be joining the cast of TNT’s drama Hawthorne. Anthony will be reprising his role as Detective Nick Renata which he played last season on the show in its second season. Hawthorne is a medical drama which stars Jada Pinkett Smith as the main character Christina Hawthorne, who is a Chief Nursing Officer who leads a group of nurses at Richmond Trinity Hospital in Richmond, Virginia and according to some insiders of the show Anthony was brought in to play the main character’s Love Interest due to the chemistry the two presented on the small screen.
In a 2010 interview about landing the role, Anthony expressed how it wasn’t hard taking the mindset of a cop thanks to the help of the show’s producers Will Smith, Miguel Melendez, and Pinkett herself who allowed him to “figure out who Nick Renata was, and he just jumped into my body. It was one of those things where it was like, ‘Oh my god do I know this guy.’ And I knew exactly how to play.” In the same interview with TVSQUAD online, Anthony discussed how he wouldn’t be interested in doing any other television show because, “The situation has to be right obviously, but I made it very clear to Jada and her team that, if ever, it would probably be this. Honestly … I don’t say that lightly. Working with them was just a dream. When it ends up being a thousand times better and more fulfilling and gratifying than you expected … I’m looking forward to coming back and seeing what happens.” And now he doesn’t have to look forward since it’s happening for the music turned acting sensation.
This is Anthony’s first foray into the Acting world, and has quite the acting resume starring in Martin Scorsese’s Bringing Out the Dead and Tony Scott’s Man on fire. He even starred in Leon Ichaso’s Biopic El Cantante where he played Puerto Rican salsa sensation and pioneer Hector Lavoe with his wife Jennifer Lopez. Outside of the big screen, Anthony has appeared in Paul Simon’s 1997 Broadway musical The Capeman. And to add to his small screen presence, Anthony starred with Salma Hayak in the television movie In the Time of the Butterflies.
With J.LO making it on American Idol, maybe luck will hit twice and have the other half of this Latino Supercouple appering regularly on the small screen. You can check out when Marc Anthony makes his debut as series regular when Hawthorne returns to airwaves for its third season this Summer Season.
