
Marc Anthony Raises $100k For Dominican Orphanage
On Monday, August 20, 2012 Marc Anthony along with the Maestro Cares Foundation, in partnership with Blackberry,Goya, and the Dominican Republic Department of Tourism, hosted 200 guests for the organization’s first ever Chicago fundraiser. The event was held at the Sofitel Water Tower, in the heart of the city’s Gold Coast, the red-carpet event raised over $100,000 for the development of a new residence hall for orphaned children in the Dominican Republic. The evening included special appearances by global pop icon and Maestro Cares co-founder Marc Anthony, entrepreneur and co-founder Henry Cardenas, Formula One driver Esteban Gutierrez, and actor Luis Guzman. The massive auction sold off items belonging to Maná, Lionel Messi and Oscar de la Renta. Marc also gave away front row seats to his GIGANT3S show with Marco Antonio Solis and Chayanne. Marc sent out a ton of Twitter love to fans who supported the charity.
“Thanks to everyone that attended @MaestroCares last night in Chicago,” he posted. “You were there for us again, appreciate your support. The Maestro Cares Foundation was co-founded by Anthony and Colombian-born entrepreneur Henry Cárdenas in January. The non-profit foundation aims to help organizations in Latin America that work with disadvantaged children. Orfanato Niños de Cristo is the first to benefit from Maestro Cares’ work.
“Our mission is to help Latin American children in creating healthy and safe environments, but as major priority will be on supporting their academic needs,” Cárdenas wrote on the website of his marketing agency, Cárdenas Marketing Network, “Education is key for Maestro Cares because it will bring the children closer to their dreams. They are our future leaders.”
ABC Family picks up pilot from Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez will be keeping busy executive producing a new hour-long drama, the pilot for which has been picked up by ABC Family, the network said in a statement. Lopez’s drama titled “The Fosters” centers on a family consisting of a multi-ethnic group of kids being raised by two moms. Their brood includes both foster and biological children. Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige serve as the show’s writers and executive producers, which they’ll do along with Lopez, Simon Fields and Greg Gugliotta. No cast has been announced as of yet.
