There are many ways to skin a cat. There are just as many ways to get the numbers in the music industry. Rik Indio has stood the test of time with a song that first appeared in Billboard Magazine at No. 31 last November. Fast forward to February and “Demasiado Fuerte” is still sitting pretty at No. 4 in the Tropical category.
The song, which is written by Jorge Luis Piloto, tells a story of a passion that is so strong that even when a slave to the clock, it cannot be ignored. The video clip for this song which shows the resort town of Punta Cana includes co-star Ramona Rizzo of VH1 Mob Wives Season 2.
Rik Indio has come far so quickly since he returned to the business in 2014 after attending to family business for a lengthy period. He placed his faith not on the large labels but on the loyal ones. On the strength of broadcasters in Santo Domingo and the United States, who played his song often to a growing fanbase who responded to this large man with the gentle yet firm voice made “Culpable de Amarte” a Top 10 chart favorite in May of 2016 for six weeks on the Tropical Songs List in Billboard Magazine peaking at No.7.
The song also debuted at No. 1 in Moniter Latino and was listed as one of the best 50 Salsa songs of the year. He also scored a Premios Conga Award for Outstanding Foreign Salsa Performer in the Dominican Republic.
Rik, the Puerto Rican who also goes by the moniker “The Bad Boy of Salsa” built on this foundation in 2017 with his current hit that was shown on Music Choice and Htv who spread the song to national and international audiences. So as Rik has already proven, patience, hard work and people who believe in your talent can produce a Top Five independent artist. The music world should take note.
