9 Steps to Hosting An Ugly Christmas Sweater Party
By: Melissa Angert
“Ugly Sweater Parties” seem to creep up every holiday season! It’s a fun and festive way to celebrate with friends (and get some great pictures while you’re at it). When you talk about having an ugly sweater party, the first thing you might want to do is to drop the word “ugly” and make it a festive fashion holiday party. (Some people may actually like their light-up reindeer head sweaters and you won’t want to offend party guests.)
Here are nine steps to a successful and fun holiday fashion party:
1. Create Your Invitations: Make a list and check it twice and then let everyone know when to come! Don’t forget to suggest they check local thrift shops and local Goodwill stores to find their own festive sweaters.
2. Gather Party Supplies: Buy your paper goods and decorations. Hit your local party store or try local boutiques for truly unique décor ideas.
3. Determine your sweater personality. Go to http://bit.ly/SweaterQuiz to determine what type of sweater personality you have.
4. Get your sweater. Head over to your local second-hand stores to see if you can make someone else’s cast-off your holiday treasure.
5. Embellish your sweater. Add some fun bling to your attire to celebrate the season. You are the party host after all. To really blow your guests away, add battery-operated lights wrapped around yourself and you’ll be the star!!
6. Decorate and set out the food. It’s party time! Decorate and get out the snacks. Go with easy recipes you can make ahead of time that can be served at room temperature so you can really relax and enjoy the party with your guests.
7. Take lots of pictures! Post plenty of pictures of you and friends doing festive sweater selfies with the hashtag #SweaterSelfie on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
8. Enjoy the party. Now you can relax and truly let down your hair a bit.
9. Clean-up the mess. Once your party guests have gone home, it’s time to clean up and put away your festive sweater. Keep that beauty for next year – or donate it back to your local Goodwill you can get that last minute charitable tax write-off and so other people can enjoy them for their own parties!
