Jennifer Lopez’s Dance Again World Tour performed in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, on Friday night. The show was a bit different from her usual sexy shows because the pop star was asked to tone down both her wardrobe and dance moves to make her performance āsuitableā for an audience in a country where Islam is predominantly practiced. J.Lo and her dancersā attire were not to show menās chest or womenās cleavage.
“In terms of stage act there will be no difference,” stated Chairi Ibrahim, project manager for Dyandra Promosindo. “But she’s expected to cover parts that are usually revealed and the dancers will be clothed and not bare-chested.”
“JLO was very cooperative … she respected our culture,” Ibrahim said, adding that Lopez’s managers also asked whether she could perform her usual sexy dance moves, but were told that “making love” moves were not appropriate for Indonesia.
“Yes, she dressed modestly … she’s still sexy, attractive and tantalizing, though,” said Ira Wibowo, an Indonesian actress who was among more than 7,000 fans at the concert.
Lopez’s Jakarta concert comes five months after Indonesia made global headlines for refusing to issue a concert permit for eccentric pop diva Lady Gaga. Most Muslims in Indonesia, a secular country of 240 million people, are moderate. But a small extremist group has become more vocal in recent years. But that didn’t stop the Boricua from putting on a great show for her fans. “Thank you Jakarta for an amazing night,” the 43-year-old diva tweeted to her 13 million followers Saturday.
