Pedro Armendariz Jr. died at the age of 41 on Monday in the New York hospital he was attending for cancer treatment.
The actor was diagnosed with eye cancer back in November during his filming of the telenovela “La Fuerza Del Destino.” His death was officially announced on twitter by Televisa news anchor Joaquin Lopez Doriga.
The Mexican actor starred in many big name Hollywood films including “Once Upon a Time in Mexico” and “The Legend of Zorro”. His most recent project was his role in the upcoming film, “Casa de mi Padre”. The film will be his final performance on the big screen.
Many have expressed lament at the loss of the star. The Mexican presidential office released a statement regarding Armendariz’s death in which they called him “a great actor who reflected well on Mexico at home and abroad.” Diego Luna, the actor’s costar in the upcoming film, tweeted, “Pedro is one of those [people] who made you smile just seeing them.”
May he rest in peace.
