On Monday, February 14, 2011, The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism announced the return of the innovative and fabulous República Dominicana Fashion Week (RDFW), during an exclusive media reception at Latin Quarter. The affair kicked off the first of several events celebrating the allure of Dominican art and fashion.
RDFW Director and Co-founder Tita Hasbun detailed the upcoming event and mission via a video presentation for covering press. May 31st- June 4th, 2011, world renowned and emerging fashion designers will once again descend upon the enchanted island of the Dominican Republic for this epic event.
Celebrities such as fresh-faced Dominican super model Arlenis Sosa (Elle Magazine, Vogue, Lancôme), international pop-star, Kat Deluna, tropical-punk female artist, Maluca (Billboard “2011 Artist to Watch”), Oro Solido’s Raul Acosta, 24 Horas, reality star Jessica Caban; girl group, Rok Fairies, and The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s resident fashion guru, Dwight Eubanks, were in attendance to celebrate the creative contributions of The Dominican Republic.
Additionally, fashion designers Sully Bonnelly, Jose Duran, Jolibe creator, Joel Diaz, Andres Aquino (showing during NY Couture Fashion Week) and Paolo Davaldi (celebrity fashion stylist), were amongst partygoers celebrating their Dominican heritage as they toasted with Brugal Rum’s signature mixed drinks.
Only in its third consecutive year, RDFW continues to attract a host of international designers and emerging native artists to its Santo Domingo stage. Designers such as Angel Sanchez and LuLu Guinness are among past presenters. It serves as a major platform to illuminate the artistry of these dynamic and passionate Dominican designers to the world.
