  • This year’s 25th Anniversary of the Latino Commission on AIDS marks an important milestone in the organization’s history.
  • Each year, Cielo mobilizes a leadership network of concerned members of the health, business, government, entertainment, fashion and philanthropic sectors, and individual donors, to support the Commission’s vision – to create a world without HIV and AIDS.
  • Over 220,000 Latinos in the U.S. and Puerto Rico have been diagnosed with HIV and AIDS. Latinos represent 16% of the U.S. population but account for 21% of all new HIV infections.
  • “Bailando Por Una Causa”(Dancing for a Cause): A Night of Dancing to support the Latino Commission on AIDS Organization

Baliando Por Una CausaSupporting a charity shows that you are standing up for what the organization believes in and are willing to help in some way achieve the organization’s goals. This could be from making a donation, to volunteering, or spreading the word about the cause throughout various social media platforms. By spreading the word, more and more people become aware about the cause and encourage others to join with them.

Baliando Por Una Causa took place at El Museo Del Barrio on 1230 5th Avenue at 104th Street, which was followed by an after party at a separate location. A total of 14 performances were included in the program and the different types of dances that were performed were: African, hip-hop, modern, salsa, ballet, tango, Columbian Contemporary, world jazz, and flamenco.

The dance companies that participated included: Djobiba Dance Centre, Arch Dance Company, Khaleah London, Kate’s Dance Company, Dance Theatre of Harlem School, Anais Haven, Etnocontempo Danza Ensamble, Celcilia Marta Dance Company, Nelida Tirado, Peridance Contemporary Company, Limon Dance Company, Ballet Hispanico’s Bhdos, Unified Dance Studio, and Baila Society.

The announcer at the beginning of show talked briefly about the purpose of the performance and also encouraged the audience to give applause and cheers for the part of the dances that they enjoyed. Each dance had its own unique style and the dancers told a story throughout the dance with their bodies. With the sold out event, the audience was amazed and awed by each performance.
