Uptown Fashion Week’s First Plus Size Showcase

I had the pleasure of being a guest at Uptown Fashion Week‘s First Plus Size Showcase at Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course. As a fashionable plus size girl I loved and would totally wear 90% of the garments that graced the runway. The 3 indie designers were faboulous and their collections ranged from sophisticated glam to urban chic.

Lingerie for the Real Size Women

On November 13th in New York City Victoria’s Secret taped their annual fashion show.

I tune in every year because I enjoy watching the glamorous models strut their confidence on the long elaborate runway and watch the great performances but I know that my 40-35-47 Latin curvy frame will never fit in any of their selections. So today I want to share Christina’s Secret.

Here are some of my favorite places to shop for sexy lingerie for the “real size” women.

Hips and Curves
Located in Southern California, Hips and opened for business in 2000 and has been going strong ever since! They offer a secure, private and entertaining shopping experience while bringing you the latest and greatest in plus size lingerie styles. They carry a wide assortment of lingerie from sweet and demure to smokin’ hot styles for plus-sized women everywhere.

Intimates Plus
The dream began in 2007 when full-size CEO was in the market for a sexy and luxurious piece of lingerie for a special occasion. She searched high and low at all of the well know lingerie retailers. She even searched well known plus-size boutiques; nothing piqued her interest. Everything was either not cut for her ample size 18 body, not sexy enough, or was just simply not made from quality materials. She thought that she couldn’t be the only real-size woman having this issue, thus, Intimates Plus was born.

Addition Elle
This fall Super Plus size model Ashley Graham introduced her lingerie collection for Addition Elle. “The pieces were inspired by bras in my personal wardrobe that I found to be both beautiful and supportive….

Ann Nahari
Originally launched in 2000 under the brand name Full Figure Design, the new lingerie division is a complete revamp and rebrand of the collection for the Ann Nahari woman. “We have upgraded the whole collection with better fit and fabrication,” says Ms. Rasheed. “The new collection reflects both sexiness and comfort with styles that are on trend.

Fall Style Guide For The Curvy Chicas

As a curvy Latina I would like to shout this out “CURVES ARE IN LADIES”.

For years curvy women were told to stick with dark colors and oversize garments to appear slimmer. But thankfully all those myths our out the window and we are now embracing our sexy curves and wearing patterns, bright colors and form fitting fashion that showcase our amazing silhouette.

Pencil skirts are one of my closet sheros. These skirts are made to hug our curves…day or night you can’t go wrong with a good pencil skirt. You can wear it with a button down shirt for work, a graphic tee-shirt for a day with the girls or pair it with a peplum shirt for a fabulous date night. For cold days just add some opaque tights, amazing pair of pumps or some knee high boots or bootie to finish the look. They come in different fabric and color so shop around for the one that works best for you. Here are a few from Asos Curve collection.

Asos is based in the UK and in my opinion tend to run a little big. Review their size chart and get one size smaller. Standard shipping and returns are free!!!

Pencil Skirts

For a long time leggings had a bad rap and were considered a curvy girl fashion “don’t” but that is also in the past. Leggings styled correctly are a curvy girl’s MUST this fall season. Again don’t shy away from being bold and standing out. Experiment with texture and patterns this fall. Pair them with a good bootie to elongate your curvy frame.

Here are a few looks from Forever21+. All the looks shirt & leggings included are under $50.

Prints Prints Prints…..its time to jump out the box ladies. Major designers fall collection all included fabulous prints and guess what? Our curvas look great in them too. Here are a few options to consider this fall. Pair them with black Opaque tights for a sleek off the runway look.

TIP: If you splurge on a good pair of tights it will not only make the look complete it will flatten your tummy area, smooth your hips and lift las pompas. Opaque tights are a fashion WIN!!!!!

Denim is in and always will be, but when you are curvy shopping for jeans are a true nightmare. The truth is Latinas need more room in the hips and butt area. After a few hit and miss I have 3 go to brands that work great on my curves and are very fashionable. PZI Jeans, NY & Company and Fashion To Figure. Contrary to what people say…curves look great in skinny jeans and dark washes give us a slimming affect and are extremely versatile.

New Fashion Alert: This fall you can mix denim with denim. So pair your fitted jeans with a denim shirt (even if it’s a different wash). Look at the example below from Mynt 1792. You can also wear them with a fabulous printed shirt, blazers or an open front cardigan.
