WHO: Pop artist Romero Britto will be in New York City for the official opening of an exhibition of his sculptures, featuring the “Best Buddies Friendship Bear.”
WHAT: Ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Time Warner Center with Romero Britto and Best Buddies International Founder & Chairman- Anthony Kennedy Shriver.
Britto’s works, which reflect his optimistic faith in the world around him, are characterized for his pulsating colors, pop themes and commanding compositions. Some of his artistic endeavors include a living canvas performed by Cirque du Soleil in celebration of Super Bowl XLI, postage stamps for both the US Postal Service and Brazil, the logo for Absolut Vodka and even a children’s book series (Simon & Schuster – publisher).
The “Best Buddies Friendship Bear” was created and specially published through the generosity of the artist to benefit Best Buddies International, a nonprofit organization that enhances the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.

WHY: Romero Britto believes art is too important not to share and therefore has become an artistic activist through charitable organizations worldwide. He has been an invited speaker at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland and has facilitated programs through his art to promote literacy and peace around the world. He is a longtime supporter and friend of Best Buddies International, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one to one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
