From the July/August issue of LatinTRENDS, out NOW:
“His later roles — such as those in American Family, Resurrection
Blvd., and the upcoming Los Americans — reflect a more sociopolitical
bent than those “thug”-type roles he took in the past (such
as those in the aforementioned La Bamba, and of course his role as
Chucho in Mi Familia, in which he co-starred with Edward James
Olmos and, uh, Jennifer Lopez), but his most overtly political role to
date is, perhaps, the one he’s starring in now: the role of Enrique in
Gun Hill Road, which recently was shown in New York shortly after
the Pride Parade. “Gun Hill Road is one of those projects that’s by
the people, for the people,” he said. “I’m really proud of its incredible
outcome.”
Based on a true story, Gun Hill Road tells the story of Enrique, an
ex-convict who returns to his home in the Bronx (hence, Gun Hill
Road) after a three year prison stint to find life, as he knew it, turned
upside down: his wife (played by Judy Reyes) is estranged from him,
and his teenage son is exploring his homosexuality.”
