Lady Gaga was nominated for 13 awards — a VMA record — at the 2010 MTV VMA show, and while she didn’t pull all of them, she did walk away with eight. Although at times, walking seemed to be hard for Gaga given her intense outfits. Among Lady Gaga’s wins were the highly coveted video of the year award for “Bad Romance,” which also won for best female video and best pop video.
Lady Gaga also revealed the title of her new album, “Born This Way,” during her acceptance speech. Lady Gaga’s third outfit also should have earned an award of its own, as her purse, hat and dress appeared to be made out of meat.
In essence, Lady Gaga is the type of artist the MTV VMA show is made for and yearns for — someone who dares to be different despite being enveloped in the world of pop music, someone who suggests rebelling against the machine while being an irrefutable part of it, and someone who is a flashy, over-the-top trendsetter with mass appeal.
