As of June 20th Mexican singer and actor Andrés Zuno has been seen on CBS soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Having aired 26 years on television this is the first time a Mexican joins its cast. Zuno previously acted in the telenovelas “Pasión” and “Al Diablo con los Guapos.”
Zuno auditioned several times until he got the part. “Soaps in the United States are very tight and closed, it’s an established community, and it’s wonderful that there was this space for me,” Zuno told Latin Times. “It’s not an easy industry, it’s not as broad as the movies. It was a hard process to go through, but I’m more than delighted to be a part of it.”
Zuno will play Rafael, a young New Yorker who is pursuing his dream of producing an internet series. Along the way he encounters an old friend from high school whom he helps reconnect with her ex-boyfriend.
About being cast in the soap Zuno said “I’m the first Mexican to star in an American soap and it feels great. I’m very happy and excited and I’m glad that I can finally break the Latino stereotype because my character has nothing to do with that.”
Zuno is also a singer and is currently working on his second album. In June of 2010, he released his first single as a solo pop artist, “Suma de Dos,” from his debut album Andy Zuno: Mas de Una Vida. He recently released his first single, “Cuando No Estás,” that will also have an English version.
“The Bold and the Beautiful” is the only soap opera to be in the Guinness World Record “Most Popular Daytime TV Soap – Current,” and has won multiple awards, including the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series three years in a row (2009-2011)
