DANCING IN MY COCKROACH KILLERS
Sassy New Musical Brings Famed Bronx Ensemble and Award-Winning Poet To Premier Latino Off-Broadway Stage
Pregones Theater in The Bronx and the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater in Manhattan, two acclaimed Latino companies, jointly announced their collaboration in the Off-Broadway run of ensemble musical Dancing In My Cockroach Killers, an explosive mix of texts, visuals, and music by award-winning poet/playwright Magdalena Gomez and composer Desmar Guevara.

Conceived by Rosalba Rolón, founder/director of Pregones and winner of the prestigious United States Artists Fellowship in Theater Arts, and first developed as part of a Master Artist tribute to Gomez in 2011, the show is newly staged and expanded in collaboration with the great Miriam Colón. The new production will have a limited-time engagement at the PRTT stage on West 47th Street, Manhattan, from September 19th through October 13th.
A stellar ensemble delivers the full range of Gomez’s rhythmic realism, boundless hope, and laugh out loud humor. Her characters face real life challenges with courage and flair, and are openly inspired by friends, family, and Latino icons as varied as Lolita Lebrón, Joe Cuba, and Iris Chacón.
From the no-nonsense Why I Lost The Popularity Contest, to the heart-stopping Fuego en la cocina, to the funny and rousing Madre de Bomba, each story in Dancing In My Cockroach Killers will have you nodding and finger-snapping in self recognition!
Original music by Desmar Guevara and ensemble actors/musicians Rosal Colón, Sol Crespo, Shadia Fairuz, Elise Hernández, Jesús Martínez, Omar Perez, Nicholas Laboy, and Bejamin Willis.
A great evening of live theater and music, performed in English and Spanish, with simultaneous translation via supertitles. Runtime is 65 minutes.
