In August 2010, I stepped out of the airport in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and hot air as thick as a pancake seemed to slap me in the face. Taylor Rand, a DREAM Project volunteer, greeted me at the exit. Taylor was definitely dressed for the weather, sporting flip-flops, shorts and a tank top. My intention was to volunteer as a teacher at the DREAM project for about three months. I stayed 9 months and then returned a few months later. I developed as a teacher, mentor, coordinator and student of the world as a DREAM volunteer.
It’s hard to leave DREAM. In fact, DREAM is still with me and I would love for you to help me celebrate another year of DREAM teaching, tutoring, helping, guiding, loving and sharing this Thursday, March 7th. Come join us at El Museo del Barrio 7-10:30 pm (1230 5th Avenue New York, NY 1002) and I will personally be there to tell you all about my experience at DREAM Project!
