MAYWEATHER DEAFEATS COTTO IN 12 ROUNDS
Mayweather beats Miguel Cotto the Puerto Rican Champion for the super welterweight championship on Saturday May 5 in Las Vegas by unanimous decision, but seemingly it was a good fight, Mayweather found himself in a real fight, complete with a bloody nose and an opponent in Cotto that wasn’t going to quit. You can say Cotto gave him a run for his money. The win didn’t come easy for Maywether as Cotto landed some hard punches and kept attacking constantly all the way to the final bell. As the fight came to an end Mayweather went to Cotto and payed him respect and told him “You’re a hell of a champion, You’re the toughest guy I ever fought.” Mayweather dominated in the later rounds in the fight, rocking Cotto in the 12th round to pull out a win and remain undefeated in his record of 43 fights. This was really one of his toughest fights of his career, it was a tough battle for Mayweather suffering a bloody nose and some bruising around the eye which he usually avoids. Two Judges scored the fight 117-111 and the third had it 118-110. The Associated Press had Mayweather winning 116-112. Mayweather used his speed to take the fight in the last round, he landed his best punch in the last round with a left uppercut followed with several flurries to the head that seemed to hurt Cotto to wrap up the decision. The crowd didn’t seem to happy with the decision by the judges, they cheered wildly overtime Cotto landed a punch. Cotto never went down and kept fighting even though he looked hurt during the fight, especially in the 12th round. Cotto said “The judges said I lost the fight, I can’t do anything else, I’m happy with my fight and performance and so is my family. I can’t ask for anything else.” in return Mayweather said “He’s a tough competitor, he came to fight, he didn’t just come to survive. I dug down fought him back.” Mayweather was guaranteed $32 million for the fight, he just had to earn every penny this time. He did it after weighing in at 151 pounds, the heaviest he’s ever been for a fight. Cotto came out with $8 million the most he’s made for one fight. Mayweather imporves to 43-0 and Cotto falls to 37-3.
