HBO Sports serves up a blockbuster super lightweight title match when WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING: AMIR KHAN VS. DANNY GARCIA is presented SATURDAY, JULY 14 (11:00 p.m. live ET/tape-delayed PT) from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, exclusively on HBO. The telecast will be presented in Spanish on HBO Latino.
A 2004 Olympic Silver Medalist, London’s Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KOs) is enormously popular in Britain and has displayed a willingness to cross the pond to meet the toughest opponents. Last December he placed his 140-pound belts on the line against Lamont Peterson in Peterson’s hometown of Washington, D.C., losing a controversial split decision. Now the 25-year-old returns to Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, where he scored a thrilling Dec. 2010 victory over Marcos Maidana, which was named the BWAA’s Fight of the Year, and where he blitzed Zab Judah in July 2011.
Khan gets another shot at the title against Philadelphia’s Danny Garcia (23-0, 14 KOs) in this 12-round, 140-pound bout. The 24-year-old Garcia made his HBO debut in March, defeating future Hall of Famer Erik Morales by unanimous decision to claim the super lightweight belt.
The executive producer of WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING is Rick Bernstein; producer, Dave Harmon; director, Marc Payton.
