Today, in the music industry people are a combination of titles like producers and artists, or entrepreneurs and engineers. Marcella Araica is one Colombian and Nicaraguan woman that can claim all four titles in her resume. Born and raised in Miami, Florida she says music has always been a passion of hers. “I always had a love for music, so I went to Full Sail University, graduated and then I interned at the Hit Factory” says Araica. After graduating Full Sail University she went on to work with producers like Timbaland and Danja and artists like Duran Duran, Mary J Blige, and Pink. Araica says her work with artists of different genres happens because people want to experiment. “I have a love for all types of music. I keep an open mind and I love to take on challenges, music is music.” Working with many high profile artists, she says her best experience was working with Pink. “I just enjoyed the energy; she was down to earth, and a fun personality. It was one of the easiest sessions I ever had.” Araica’s work with artists has brought her recognition from organizations like ASCAP which awarded her 2 awards for songs Knock You Down with Keri Hilson and Sober with Pink. She says about winning the awards she took them humbly and the recognition felt good. She has simple advice to those who would like to follow in her footsteps.” I would say dedication, willing to put in hard work, being persistent and passionate.” Araica started a foundation called Red Bottoms which helps empower women and give them a path into the business. Araica also partnered with producer Danja and started a record label where signed acts like Kevin Cossom and Luke James hope to make an impact in the music industry.
