For the third time in this career, actor, Javier Bardem, has been nominated for an Oscar. This year Bardem has been nominated for Best Actor for his role in the Mexican movie entitled Biutiful directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu.
Prior to this film, Bardem was nominated for Best Actor for the movie Before the Night Falls, while scooping his first award in 2008 for Best Supporting Actor for his role in No Country for Old Men. Bardem’s competition appears to be very stiff as actors Jeff Bridges (True Grit), James Franco (127 Hours), Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), and Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) all stand in the way of the Spaniard’s golden ticket and chance at redemption for his defeat in 2000.
Asides from Bardem’s individual success, the movie itself has also garnered another nomination, and in the category of Best Foreign Film. Biutiful will be battling against Dogtooth (Greece), In a Better World (Denmark) Incendies (Canada), and Outside the Law (Algeria).
