What would happen if there was an invasion of flesh eating zombies in
the city of Havana? Filmmaker Alejandro Bruges wants us to find out.
The film, which will be the first zombie movie shot in
post-Revolutionary Cuba, centers around a Cuban who tries to make
money off the situation by making a business of ridding people of
their undead loved ones. Sounds pretty much exactly what any Cuban
would do in that situation. Meanwhile the Cuban government blame the
invasion on Washington.
The satirical horror flick is by a Spanish production company and the
government-run Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematography. Production
is almost underway, with a budget of $2.1 million.
Though he insists the film is not political – naturally, or else that
Cuban seal of approval would be revoked immediately – it does deal
with the topic of whether people should stay or leave when things get
tough. Sounds like it will make for an interesting topic of
conversation among the Cubans that have fled the island.
But the million dollar question is, are we going to get a Zombie Castro?
