Justin Lopez, better known by his moniker DJ Ju5tin. Located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Justin, 9 year’s old, has built a reputation as one of the best DJ’s in the country. The son of a DJ, the story behind the talent is the source of great inspiration.
Justin suffers from a rare form of muscular dystrophy. It is called Glycogen storage disease, which he and his younger brother both were diagnosed with. But Justin has focused on being a DJ which he started learning from his father, also a DJ, at age 5, the meaning behind the number in his stage name.
His father, Dan Lopez, when interviewed by local media, hoped that television coverage on his son’s unique journey would catch the attention of qualified medical personnel. “We hope that a doctor sees this and can find something that Justin and Jaden can work with to give them both a longer lasting life.”
Justin has survived over a dozen surgeries related to the disease which effects the liver and heart and his everyday activities from playing to dressing to even expressing himself fully. Being one of only 11,000 people in the world effected by this can be seen as a bitter bill but his family has been unified by it.
“It puts things in perspective. ” Dan pointed out. “It has affected us dramatically but also brought us together.”
Being around Justin, one can easily get caught up with his positive personality, awesome smile, and excitement for living. It took a while to find comfort in himself and since then everyone has benefitted. As he continues to make the crowds dance and forget their daily problems, he is also in a place where he controls the tempo of life. “Justin is a kid who is a role model for all of us.” Dan Lopez explains “He is our rock and his little brother looks up to him.” A true story that reminds all about the fragility of life and the importance of living it well no matter what cards are dealt.
