Upon the success of the more than 800 hyper local Patch sites around the country, AOL Huffington Post announced May 3 that the company is expected to launch three ”Patch Latino” sites in Southern California by the end of this year.
The news sites were started to “help meet the tremendous desire for local news and community coverage among the fast-growing Latino community”, said Arianna Huffington, president and editor-in-chief of AOL Huffington Post Media Group, said in a statement.
Following Patch’s traditional model of “local news, community and information”, Patch Latino will offer all Spanish editorial content.
AOL Huffington named key hires to lead its multicultural division. BET founding partner, Sheila C. Johnson will serve as strategic advisor for multicultural and African-American initiatives, and Derek Murphy, as general manager, multicultural.
I wonder how long it will be before these sites reach other communities with dense Latino populations.
