Singer Marc Anthony and music producer Henry Cardenas recently traveled to the Dominican Republic to inaugurate the construction of a modern orphanage in La Romana. Working alongside the Children of Christ orphanage, Anthony plans to help fund a new residence hall, baseball field and classroom facility. “This day not only marks the beginning of a new life for these children, who are in much need of our support, but it’s also the start of a labor of love for us that began last year and today comes to fruition,” Marc told reporters at the event. The salsa singer founded Maestro Cares with Cardenas earlier this year and has raised more than $200,000 for the expansion project, to be built on a 10,000 sq. yard piece of land donated by a local sugar company. “We have to help these kids, many of them have a lot of talent but if it isn’t given a chance it could be lost,” said an emotional Anthony, who was accompanied by his girlfriend, Shannon de Lima. The orphanage was founded in 1996 for children who were abused or abandoned or whose parents were unable to care for them. Way to go Marc!
