In a recent interview, boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya came clean about his addiction. De La Hoya stated “[my] drug of choice was cocaine and alcohol”, saying that he depended on alcohol more than the cocaine. He started using cocaine two and a half years ago and alcohol even before then. When discussing his cocaine use, De La Hoya said that the drug took him to “safe” place, “to a place where I felt as if nobody can say anything to me”. Dealing with his drug and alcohol addiction, De La Hoya admits to having suicidal thoughts. He said that he felt that his life was worthless and stated that he doesn’t “have the courage to take [his] own life. But [he] was thinking about it.” After joining Alcoholics Anonymous and undergoing treatments, De La Hoya has been sober for three months.
