Professional football player Aaron Hernandez could indeed be required to wear a “uniform” in the near future, but it won’t be one having anything to do with the New England Patriots.
Within hours of Hernandez, 23, being arrested at his North Attleborough, Mass. home Wednesday morning as a result of the investigation into the shooting death of 27-year-old semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, the Patriots cut the troubled tight end, whom they drafted in 2010.
The Patriots issued a statement on the matter:
“A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation.
“We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”
