Randy Ventura, besides being the lead singer of Los Potros, is the son of the infamous Johnny Ventura. Randy began his singing career at the age of sixteen when he would do coro for his father in his band. Even though he has done many different things in his life such as play baseball and basketball he has taken to music because it’s in his blood. Randy grew up in the music scene and is now looking to become a permanent fixture in Latino music history.
LT-Talk to me about the song “Hace calor.”
RV- The coro from the song “Hace Calor” came from Elvis Crespo, and then I got together with another Dominican composer and we wrote the rest of the song. Hace Calor is a feel good summer song. I think it could be a summer anthem.
LT-Why did you enter the Music biz?
RV-It’s something that’s inside of me. I have always been around music. The music itself motivates me to sing.
LT-How do you think the way music is done has changed?
RV-The music industry has definitely changed, first because nowadays there are so many different artists out there and secondly there are so many different new mediums to present your music, that it has reached a larger scale. It’s more international. It’s a much bigger audience and it’s hard to reach everyone. Before you had a few radio stations but now you have so many different radio stations and internet programs.
LT-Do you think artist have more control over the music?
RV-Definitely, the way it is today artists can show off their artistic expression more freely, before you had to sing what the record label wanted you to sing even if you didn’t like it.
LT-Why did you choose Merengue over Bachata?
Rv-Because it’s the rhythm that was born with our country. When the Dominican Republic gained its independence they adapted Merengue as their national anthem. This doesn’t mean that I won’t do Bachata in the future.
LT-What are your plans for the future?
RV-Like Pinky the Brain said “To take over the World” with music. I know that I will accomplish my goals when it comes to music.
Randy Ventura y Los Potros are schedule to release their album sometime this year so don’t hesitate to get this energetic and talented artist’s music.
