Described as “a joyful, gyratory salsa celebration” by Time Out New York, Cuban timba singer/songwriter Gerardo Contino (El Abogado de la Salsa) is no stranger to galvanizing dance floors around the world. A part of a number of renowned Cuban bands in Havana since his youth, including Son Yoruba, Charanga Forever, and NG La Banda, one of the most popular Cuban Salsa and Jazz orchestras (Gerardo was lead singer under the directorship of Jose Luis Cortes), Gerardo eventually birthed his own band, Los Habaneros, in New York City. Members include Axel Tosca Laugart, Luisito Quintero, and 5-time Grammy award winner John Benitez.
Gerardo has played in international festivals of salsa and jazz such as: Toulouse Festival, France; Latin American Festival of Milan, Italy; Festival Fiesta, Rome, Italy; Festival of Múnich, Switzerland, Copenhagen Festival, Denmark; Salsa Festival of Verona, Italy; and, Afro-American Roots of Maracay, Venezuela.
From touring all over the world, and sharing the stage with such artists as Oscar de Leon, Roberto Roena, El Gran Combo, La India, and many more, Gerardo & Los Habeneros are set to bring their progressive raucous stye of salsa to Salsa Groove at SOB’s, performing songs from their latest album, “Somos Latinos” (featuring Xiomara Laugart, Luisito Quintero, Roberto Quintero, Axel Laugart,, and many more)!
