It’s the New Year and you’ve decided to make good use of your gym membership. But there is something on your mind and it’s making you feel a bit insecure about pounding the treadmill or borrowing a yoga mat. Your armpits, your hands and your face—they sweat more than usual. In fact, excessive sweating is affecting your daily life. If this is so, you may be suffering from hyperhidrosis.
A Few Causes
- Anxiety
- Hyperthyroidism
- Certain medications
- Substance abuse
- Menopause
- Infections
- Glucose control disorders
What can you do about it?
1. Try a strong antiperspirant.
2. See your doctor for a proper diagnosis and ask about the following:
- Topical medications.
- Botox injections to block the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. However, this could be a costly treatment with only temporary effects.
- ETS (Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy) surgery. Consider this as a last resort as it is invasive and can cause several side effects.
