Ivana Helsinki closed out NY Fashion Week on September 16, 2010, a historical moment in her career as a designer. A first time Finnish Designer to have her designs cat walk at the premiere event of Fashion in NY.
The Suhonen sisters are a force. Paola Ivana Suhonen will state directly she is an artist, “…if fashion design is what gets me in the door, than so be it, but I am an artist and I see my career moving into film, film and fashion are on of the same in my opinion…” The multi-talented artist is hands on from beginning to end, she even djayed her own show!
The marketing arm to this operation is her sister, Pirjo Suhonen, who began smart marketing months prior; hosting private and public events in Soho, to make this finale show a great success. When asked what is the best business advice and the key to success, she answered: “Often I am asked if I feel disadvantage because I am a woman, the truth is ‘No’. As long as your bills are paid on time, people know you are serious and take you seriously.”
The show was a great success and the sisters ended the night with the best smile of all, the “smile of accomplishment.”
