When planning a trip to Latin America, one of the toughest decisions may be choosing where to go. With idyllic destinations like Argentina, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Guatemala, just to name a few, how in the world does one decide? If you think the destinations I’ve mentioned are tough to select from, try adding Ecuador. There are many reasons Ecuador should be at the top of your travel list, but we’ve narrowed it down.
1. La Iglesia de la Compañiá de Jesús (the Society of Jesus), located in Quito, is one of the country’s most popular cathedrals, and it may have something to do with its mesmerizing architecture.
2. Cotopaxi is the second highest summit in Ecuador with a height of 19,347 ft. Moreover, Cotopaxi is also one of the highest active volcanoes.
3. Quilotoa, an impressive lake, is set high in the Andes. But this isn’t just any lake. Quilotoa was formed when a volcano erupted more than 800 years ago. The lake shifts from hues of blue to green depending on the sun’s location.
4. The Galapagos Islands are a group of volcanic islands. There are giant tortoises, sea lions, marine iguanas and even more species on the islands.
