The story will be told in an one hour. A 60-minute summary based on the words of Auturo Perez-Reverte. It is his work produced by Fox 21 television and Universal Cable Productions (UCP) that brings us “Queen of The South” on the USA Network.
Alice Braga, of “I Am Legend” fame has been installed in the lead role to play Teresa Mendoza. The story runs full circle as our heroine is forced to flee to America after the death of her boyfriend, who was engaged in drug-dealing.
“It was a beautiful challenge,” Alice admitted, “I read the book like 7 to 8 years ago. I have always been in love with this character.”
She ends up teaming with a person from her past and becomes the primary reason for the fall of the leader of that same drug-trafficking ring. The supporting cast is deep with Veronica Falcon (Besos de Azucar), Justina Machado (Six Feet Under), Hemky Madera (Weeds), and Gerardo Taracena (Apocalypto), and Jon Ecker (Narcos), among many others.
The series is an adaptation of the miniseries “La Reina del Sur” starring Katie Castillo and will run 13 episodes this summer.
