It was a mini-series that opened eyes in Mexico. Its sure to do the same here when it launches this Sunday evening, April 19th, at 10pm E.S.T. on NBC Universo. Cronica de Castas, directed by Daniel Gimenez Cacho, promises an uncensored look at the lives of the residents of Tepito in Mexico City. The Hotel Galicia will be the centerpiece for this nine part drama. This is the type is gritty, no-nonsense programming that NBC Universo is looking to provide while decorated with quality production to get its point across.
That is the premise as explained by the VP of programming at NBC Universo, Margie Moreno,
“The series stirred deep emotions in Mexico and we expect Latinos here in the U.S. will also be moved.”
In that spirit many will able to identify with the characters led by a fine group of talented actors who cover varied social and economic backgrounds such as Naian Gonzalez Norvid, who plays Lucia, an upper class girl who arrives in Tepito to escape abuse at home. Angela Molina (Yolanda) just moved from Spain and guards a dark past.
“It has great storytelling, polarizing characters, and arresting moments,”
Margie Moreno explained.
The moments are hard to forget with underlying and overt acts of racism, prejudice, and social class issues prevalent throughout the series. It promises to draw the attention of extended audiences as the show will be available with English subtitles and playing weekly on various platforms including TV, online, mobile devices, and Video on Demand.
