Amazon will be releasing the series Casanova pilot today on their streaming service. Diego Luna is playing the man whose name has been equated with “womanizer.” The 18th century renaissance man has been presented in that one dimension to the present time.
Luna (Elysium, Y Tu Mama Tambien) will uncover more aspects about the man not previously known. For example, did you know that Casanova worked as a spy for the French government?
It’s this part of his story that writer Stu Zicherman (The Americans) and Oscar nominated director Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie) will focus on. The show begins with a prison escape previously thought to be impossible and finding himself in Paris, broke.
He probes his other talents in diplomacy and music and even linguistics to earn his keep and seperate himself from the life that landed him behind bars in the first place. Even if it means using anyone to accomplish the end which for him justifies the means. Will this new take on an old story be popular enough to pick up? The free pilot view is expected to do just that.
