There are many secrets lying through the streets of New York. So many good things kept unknown. Music fills your ears, surrounds with the authority that one can’t deny. One New york best kept secret is a Jazz, funkified band called Emefe. There sound fills the room with elements of Jazz, Electric, Mambo and Rock. There is nothing like it when their music hits you like a rush of melodies that forces you to move. Like many other bands, Emefe is on the rise, composed by an 11 piece orquestra, made up of 3 saxophone players, a trumpet, drums, 2 guitarist, pianist, shekere, bass and congos. Every musician in the band is ready to go on each of their performances. They exude an air of elegance and sophistication when they play. I was recently at an event at the Bowery Electric that featured 3 bands playing that night, Emefe as the main act of the night. When Emefe came out everyone rose to their feet to great them. Full of fans to capacity they played their popular tunes like “free yourself”, “oh that’s what it is” among others and had the fans up for their performance. Most of the band members are very young and are very committed to their music. As artist, they distinguish themselves by the mixture of all the elements in their music. Emefe has a lot of mambo roots and Spanish rhythms that compose their music. They released their well received album Music Frees All in 2010’ and have captivated fans ever since. They performed music from their new lp, Ep Europe, inspired by new electric sounds, more vocals and more personality from each band member. In this album we get to see a new side of Emefe. An exciting new sound that only makes this new album as good as the previous one. They show themselves loyal to their fans, by bringing even more funk to their album.
