South Africa‘s first black president Nelson Mandela died Thursday December 5th at his home in Johannesburg after a prolonged lung infection.
Mandela has six children: Madiba Thembekile, Makgatho, Makaziwe, Maki, Zenani and Zindziswa. He also has 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to advocating for peace and equality on both a national and global scale, Mandela has remained committed to the fight against AIDS, a disease that killed his son, Makgatho, in 2005.
