He was told he’d never amount to anything. He was outcast. Now he has his own movie & is a top Designer!
Jeremy Scott The People’s Designer- Opening in select theaters on September 18th.
“Jeremy Scott changed my life,” says rapper A$AP Rocky Z (Rakim Mayers) in the trailer for an upcoming fashion film about the farm boy from Kansas turned global fashion megastar.
Jeremy Scott: The People’s Designer, a film by Vlad Yudin and Matt Kapp – the Producer behind Valentino: The Last Emperor – tracks Scott’s journey from an oddball kid on a Kansas farm, to a poor fashion student in New York and onto the international fashion catwalks as a bonafide pop culture phenomenon.
I spoke with Edwin Mejia a co-producer of the movie and partner of Vlad…..I asked them why did they decide to do a movie/ documentary on Jeremy Scott?
”We were following him around recording some of his daily interactions. We found he had a cool rags to riches story. He grew up on a farm, came to New York to study design, his dream, and was told by FIT that he basically did not have any talent, he slept on buses. He persisted and today is the head designer at Moschino, and one of the fastest rising global designers”. Said Mejia
Mejia also shared that this film is about the underdog story and currently the king of pop fashion, Jeremy Scott. The film is produced by Matt Kapp, Producer of the Valentino The Last Emperor film which was the highest grossing fashion doc in the world. The film is expected to have its world premiere the week of the 14th of September. We are discussing options to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival as well.
The film also has a tremendous marketing campaign, advertising and distribution agenda. Currently, high end fashion label Moschino, Adidas and make up brand, MAC, are partners on the film’s release. The film features Rihanna, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Korean pop star CL and many others.

Jeremy Scott describes his young self as, “a kid in a small town on a farm looking at magazines and seeing high fashion and wanting to be a part of it so badly”; but moving from Kansas and into the fashion capital of New York wasn’t easy: “There would be times I had to sleep in the metro, because there was not a place to go,” he confesses. The movie opens in theaters on September 18th
