Selena Gomez is stepping out of her Disney phase and moving on to more adult projects. The star recently confirmed that she will be starring in the film “Spring Breakers”, written by Harmony Korine.
The movie follows the story of four college girls who decide to rob a restaurant of its money to pay for their spring break beach trip. Gomez will play a religious girl who prefers avoiding trouble. She will be starring alongside fellow Disney star Vanessa Hudgens and Emma Roberts. Actor James Franco will also be starring in the film as a rapping drug and arms dealer who bails the three girls out of jail under the condition that they kill his rival.
The project will be a far stretch from those the actress/singer has collaborated in before. In a recent interview, Gomez stated, “I’m really, really excited about it. It’s a different character than I have ever played before…What you’re going to see is more raw, I think.” Let’s see if Disney fans will feel as excited about the star’s transition.
The project is to begin filming in 2012. No release date has been set.
