I have a love/hate relationship with Jennifer Lopez. Okay, hate is a strong word; let’s say I have love/kinda not thrilled sentiments towards her. On one hand I can’t deny she’s paved the way for a lot of Latinas. She made us cool, she has made us marketable, and did it with a whole lot of unbounded curvage. It’s not like there weren’t Latinas in the entertainment business before her – Rita Hayworth, Raquel Welch, Rosie Perez, Carolina Herrera, Carmen Miranda – the list is impressive. But Jennifer came on the scene and made us marketable because of our culture. Though ironically, I’m not sure she speaks Spanish fluently (which for some reason drives me crazy…there’s that not thrilled about her thing I was talking about).
It’s a little judgmental on my part, I will admit, but sometimes I question why she isn’t more actively involved in charitable work (in her defense, I wonder this about everyone with the means to reach mass amounts of people). With her ever inflating net worth and celebrity, why not put it to altruistic use (more often)? Well, she has shut up, at least for the time being.
The Jennifer Lopez Collections at Kohl’s includes home, clothing, accessories and shoes. Kohl’s happens to run the Kohl’s Cares Program which has helped raise $7 million dollars for breast cancer research, education, and patient assistance. The two have joined forces; between now and May 5th of 2013, a special collection of items from Jennifer’s Kohl’s line will donate revenues to the Cares program.
The special edition line includes loungewear, pajamas, tote bags, t-shirts, and those cool head wraps J.Lo often rocks herself (you know the ones I’m talking about, they make her look like a Golden Age Hollywood starlet). Every item is priced from $5-15 dollars – hopefully the reasonable price will motivate purchases. This offer is valid in over 40 Kohl’s stores in Wisconsin and online.
